Obituary of Concetta N. D'Elia

Kay (Concetta) Lopresti D'Elia age 101, life-long resident of Bridgeport, beloved wife of 60 years to the late Michael J. D'Elia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in the comfort of her home. Born on November 26, 1920 to her loving late parents, Joseph and Anna Dolcimascolo Lopresti. Though her given name was Concetta, as an infant her two older sisters named her Kay which she used throughout her life.

Kay was a dedicated homemaker and also worked alongside her husband Mike at his store, Madison Tailors on the corner of Madison Ave and Lincoln Terrace in Bridgeport. Kay and Mike enjoyed entertaining their family on many occasions and especially the holidays. Her family looked forward to her popular Italian dinners and desserts, even those who married into the family who were not Italian, and her husband Mike was always there helping her out.

Kay and Mike took their children on many fun summer vacations. They enjoyed their retirement by traveling the United States, a trip to Italy and many day trips. They also enjoyed going dancing, entertaining friends and playing cards. They belonged to several clubs and senior centers. Kay was involved in the Trinacria M.A. Society through her husband Mike for over 50 years until his death in 2004. She was a member of the Happy-Go-Lucky Club started with her teenage friends for over 60 years, the Roma Club, the Germania Schwaben Ladies Auxiliary, the Shelton and Derby Senior Centers and Our Lady of Grace Travel Club.

Kay was a loving mother of two children, four grandchildren and nine grandchildren who added much joy to her life. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Peters of Monroe, granddaughter Lisa Peters Keenan and her husband Dave and their children Emily, Sarah, Julia and Brian of Stamford; son James D'Elia of Bridgeport and daughter-in-law Marilyn D'Elia of Monroe, grandsons Marine Lieutenant Colonel James D'Elia and his wife Melissa and their children Gavin and Olivia of California, Michael D'Elia and his daughter Tiffany of Monroe, and Kevin D'Elia and his wife Janelle and their children Ethan and Kyle of Monroe; sister-in-law Josephine (Joseph) Lopresti; as well as several nieces and nephews including goddaughters Joan (Piazza) Oros and Antoinette (Tedesco) Simeone and godson Henry Foresta.

Kay was predeceased by her son-in-law, Richard Peters; her four siblings, sisters Frances Capozzoli and Josephine Piazza, brothers Thomas and Joseph Lopresti; and brothers-in-law Cono Capozzoli and Joseph Piazza. She was also predeceased by her husband Mike's parents Josephine (Pasqua) and Vincent D'Elia and his siblings Cono (Florence) D'Elia, Rose (Tony) Tedesco and Mary D'Elia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, 2022, 9 a.m. in St. Andrew's Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport; face masks required. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
