Obituary of Joseph J. Galatie Jr.

Joseph J. Galatie, Jr., affectionately known as Beanie to his friends and Uncle Chuck to his family, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the age of 91. Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of Joseph Sr. and Mary Ann Ruffo Galatie. Joseph graduated from Harding High School and served in the United States Army. After returning from service, he started working as a tile setter and then purchased G & G Wine and Liquor where he operated it with his brother, Richard. Uncle Chuck enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with his buddies, playing pinochle, taking bus trips to Foxwood Casino and going to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx to buy ravioli for the family. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Galatie and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his brothers: John (Jeanette), Tony (Ann) and Richard (Mary Jane) and his sisters: Antoinette Kotelsky (Walter), Theresa Capozzi (Anthony) and his twin, Gloria Bennett (Merton). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
