Obituary of Anthony T. Varone

Anthony T. Varone, age 94, of Shelton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was the husband of the late Janet Royal Varone.

Anthony was born in Bridgeport, CT, a son of the late Oreste and Mary LaConte Varone. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. Anthony attended Fairfield Prep High School. After his military service, he went on to be a member of the first graduating class of Fairfield University in 1951 and continued his education, earning a Law Degree at Boston College. Anthony practiced law for most of his career at Blawie and Belinkie Law Firm in Bridgeport. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Oronoque Village in Stratford where they lived for 25 years.

Anthony was very involved in his community. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus serving as the Grand Knight for Council 16. Anthony served the City of Bridgeport in several appointed positions, including alderman for the 134th district for two-terms.

He was an avid golfer and was a member of Mill River Country Club for many years and continued playing at the Oronoque Golf Course with a close group of friends. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Janet. They traveled often and made lifelong friendships along the way. Anthony was always well-informed reading The Connecticut Post and New York Times daily from front to back once he retired. He was also a wonderful artist and had a talent for drawing and painting.

Anthony is survived by his daughters Diane Cascella and her husband Tom of Maryland; Pam Rogalin of Shelton and son Peter Varone and his partner Dawn Biondi of West Haven; his grandchildren, Emily and Gregory Rogalin, Kristen Cascella and her partner Brian Seward, Amanda Smith and her husband Ryan, Michael and Mary Varone and her fiance Joe Longley; and his great grandchildren Brody and Brynnly Smith.

In addition to his wife Janet, he was predeceased by his son-in-law Paul Rogalin, his granddaughter Kimberly Cascella and his brother Larry Varone.

Friends and family may call at Abriola Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd Trumbull on Saturday, January 15th at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 am. Interment will be held after the memorial service at The Gate of Heaven in Trumbull. Masks must be worn for all services.
