Obituary of Mark L. Mahoney

Mark L. Mahoney, age 71, of Monroe, beloved husband of Gwyn (Krapowich) Mahoney, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwalk on April 14, 1950, he was the youngest child of the late R. Leo and Wilma (Frisbee) Mahoney.

Mark graduated from Norwalk High School in 1968. Soon after, he began a career as a commercial truck operator – employed by companies such as Genestra Construction, Norcon, and DT&S Pools. Concurrently, Mark joined the Norwalk Police Department in 1977. He served in that capacity until his retirement at the rank of Sergeant in 1998. Upon his retirement from the police service, Mark established himself as an owner/operator for ML Mahoney, LLC. He was contracted by Consumers Petroleum and Island Transportation until his retirement in January 2021.

Mark was a gregarious and personable soul. His authentic kindheartedness was well received by his colleagues, as well as animals. Mark possessed a great affinity for history - particularly that of early American, automotive, and (his personal favorite) football. During his infrequent recreation, he enjoyed reading about or visiting historical sites/exhibits. Mark had a talent for writing and drawing; repeatedly witnessed scribbling on scrap paper. He was also an enthusiast of strength and fitness. He maintained a regular exercise routine throughout most of his adult life.

In addition to his beloved wife of almost 48 years, Mark is survived by his loving children, Rebecca Morris and her husband Kevin, Melanie Gleeson and her husband Devin, and Mark Patrick Mahoney and his wife Carrie. His six cherished grandchildren, Mark, Caoilainn, Maeve, Declan, Regan and Emilia, as well as several nieces and nephews. His sister Patricia Van Den Ameele and his brother Brian Mahoney. He was predeceased by his sister Gay Whittingham.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at a walk-through visitation on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A prayer Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Masks and social distance are required.
