Obituary of Madeline Doherty

Madeline "Mickey" Doherty (nee Shaughnessy) age 92 of Oxford, CT and formerly of Throgs Neck, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence E. Doherty, Sr. Born in the Bronx, New York on March 12, 1929, Mickey was a daughter of the late John and Madeline Atkinson Shaughnessy. Mickey was born and raised in the Bronx, before coming to Oxford, CT in 2006.

After a long career as a legal secretary, Mickey settled into retirement and volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul of the Valley Thrift Store and the Oxford Special Olympics. She was an avid shopper and was always looking for a good bargain. Her greatest joy came from raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as "Gigi".

Survivors include her seven loving children, Patty Sullivan and her husband Walter, Maureen (Mo) Blees and her husband George, Madeline Lennon and her husband Tom all of Oxford, Anne O'Malley and her husband John of Pearl River, NY, Kathleen Doherty Delano of Oxford, Joan Bourke and her husband Kevin of Pearl River, NY, Larry Doherty Jr. and Ken Sawicki of Beacon Falls, 18 cherished grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and Donna Haller of St. Louis, MO as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Doherty, her sister, Nora Sherry and her great granddaughter, Clara Jane Linari.

Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Nicholas Parish (Church of the Good Shepherd), 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour, CT on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
