Obituary of Douglas R. Fleisch
Doug Fleisch, 71, of Monroe passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was the beloved husband of forty-eight years to Marlene Minotti Fleisch.
Doug was born October 15, 1949, one of seven children to the late Richard and Betty Lou Murray Flesich. He was the oldest of seven children. Doug proudly served in the Air Force, having been a veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Sacred Heart University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and went on to become a CPA working for Arthur Young. But, he always dreamed of owning his own business and soon became an owner of the Athletic Shoe Factory. Thirty-eight years later, the business is still running strong. His business ethics and strong leadership will be carried on through his children, Alanna and Ian.
Doug was a very young 71 enjoying motorcycle trips on his Harley, driving his Corvette, and riding around in the gator with his grandchildren. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades from carpentry to tiling, particularly loved history, enjoyed a good practical joke, and read all genres of books. You couldn't miss his patriotic spirit by all the flags proudly displayed on his property. He was an avid bird watcher and made sure the multitude of bird feeders were full. Family vacations were a source of joy for Doug, and we have so many wonderful memories from them. His family meant everything. Doug was a loyal and steady friend, openly generous, and loved to inspire and encourage people.
In addition to his wife Marlene, he is survived by his daughter Alanna Senderhauf and husband James, grandson Wyatt; his son Ian Fleisch and wife Brittany, grandchildren Harper and Ian Jr.; his sister Eva Freleigh and husband Joe; his brothers Eric and wife Susan, Gary and wife Michele, and Paul and wife Sharon; as well as many nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his brothers David and Richard "Chris".
His family will receive relatives and friends at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home on Sunday, October 3rd from 12:00 pm till 3:00 pm followed by a memorial service and military honors. In lieu of gifts, contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel to Towers may be made in his memory at woundedwarriorproject.org
