I was Steve’s Spanish teacher at UNH. Even though the class was online his warm personality came through strongly. He always asked lots of questions, told us stories and was a great classmate. He was one of my favorite students. He taught me some typical Peruvian expressions, talked, and wrote about how much he loved his wife and his two daughters. He shared beautiful memories of his extended family. I am very very sorry. He was a very special person. Lo siento mucho. Un abrazo grande a toda su familia.

Dear Roxie, Alex, Isabella, Berta and all,
We just read the obituary of Steve's incredible and loving life---such a fitting tribute to a remarkably capable and true gentleman. I have been going to mass and asking special spiritual friends to pray for you all at this difficult time, including the Carmelite monastery in Reno, Nevada, where one of my college friends has resided for years. We know you are all grieving, not only for Steve, but also for Joe.
Roxie, you told me that you, your mother and your sisters were able to say you thanks and good-byes to your loving father and we realize that you are now struggling with the shock and trauma that did not offer you the same opportunity with your dear husband. Our hearts go out to you all, especially during these first days of fresh and raw grief.
Sometimes when I am feeling particularly helpless, I pray: "Dear Lord, You take over." Maybe this will help??? Maybe not--
Allen says : I thought of Steve as an engineering "Renaissance Man"---he could fix anything, build anything and was very generous in offering his knowledge and help to others. He was truly a good man. I am sure that Steve would say that the best thing he built was his wonderful family: Roxanna, Alex and Isabella. Alex and Isabella---I know that he was very proud of you both. Roxie, you will see and remember Steve whenever you see your daughters.
May you all find some measure of peace after this tragic accident.
Love, Allen and Jo-Anna
