Obituary of John F. Caputo

John Caputo, former longtime resident of Trumbull, beloved father and "Poppy" died on Monday, May 24 in California surrounded by his loving family at the "young" age of 86 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Gagliardi Caputo. John was born in Bridgeport on January 31, 1935. He was the son of the late Rosario and Anna Natoli Caputo of Sicily and predeceased by his sister, Mary Caputo Feola and brother, Ben Caputo.

John was a hardworking man who could always be found lovingly maintaining the family home by doing yard work, home repairs and improvement projects in his spare time. Once his children were grown, John being a kid at heart began to focus on his hobbies and started a collection of model trains, classic model cars, and built a model railroad in the former playroom. However, his greatest joys were his daughters and grandchildren. He was happiest when spending time with his daughters and, especially his grandchildren, which allowed him the opportunity to act like a kid himself! John was always so proud watching his grandchildren play sports, perform at music recitals and participate in after-school activities.

John owned and operated a delicatessen in Monroe for many years prior to his retirement from retail management. After the death of his beloved wife, Mary, John sold the family home in Trumbull where they lived for 44 years and moved to California to spend his retirement in a warm, sunny climate. Something he had planned to share with his wife.

John proudly served in the United States Army during peace time and will be buried with military honors.

Survivors include his four daughters, Karen DeCarolis Farrell (Keith), Dana Caputo-Varkel (Ernie), Laura Stilson and Jennifer Caputo Nicoletti (Rob), grandchildren, Jessica DeCarolis, Marcea Stilson, Bobbie Stilson and Ryan Nicoletti, brother-in-law Mario D'Onofrio and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 4, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown. Friends may call on Friday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m.
