Obituary of Jerry G. Bernardo Sr.

Jerry G. Bernardo Sr., age 92, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Elvira Ruggiero Bernardo, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on March 21, 1929, he was a son of the late Michael and Michalina Maiello Bernardo. A U.S. Army veteran, Jerry was the owner and operator of Bernardo's Texaco in Bridgeport for many years.

A 4th Degree Knight, Jerry was a member of Council 4096. He loved his many trips to the casino, was an avid bowler and looked forward his weekly card games. But his most treasured role was husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; Jerry loved spending time with his family and the unconditional love he gave and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife Vera, he was predeceased by a son Jerry G. Bernardo Jr and his wife Rose, and a brothers Joe and John Bernardo and a sister, Rose Marie Swenton. Survivors include his loving children, a son Michael Bernardo and his wife Janice and a daughter, Sandy Trotta, six grandchildren Vanessa Sheftz and her husband Pete, Jason Bernardo, Leah Lasprogato and her husband Joe, Anthony Trotta and his wife Sarah and Angelo and Sophia Trotta, four great grandchildren, Ava, Jaxson, Caleb and Theodore; a brother Frank Bernardo, a sister Connie Ballerini, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. A walk-through visitation will take place on Friday from  4 – 7 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
