Obituary of James J. Scalo

James J. Scalo, 88, of Trumbull, CT returned to the arms of his Lord on Sunday, March 14, 2021. James passed peacefully at West Haven VA Medical Center with his daughter at his side. Born July 6, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT, he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Jean P. Scalo, sister Judith (Fabrizi), brother Robert, and father James V. Scalo. He is survived by his sister Mary Jane (Pento), son James R., daughter Jill M. (Alix), and grandchildren Phillip R. Caseria, Jr. and Mariah J. Alix.

James proudly served the U.S. Navy from 1949 through 1953. He continued to serve his fellow service members through his work with the Coast Guard, VA Medical Center, as President of the Navy League of the United States Bridgeport Council, and many other military organizations. Prior to starting his own business, American Agency, Inc. (Fairfield) in 1968, Mr. Scalo worked for Remington Rand Typewriters in repairs, and later as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He attended Butler Business School where he met his longtime friend and business partner, Gerald Kelly. He moved to Trumbull with his wife in 1960.

Mr. Scalo had many beloved family and friends in the community whose lives he has enriched in so many unique ways including those in his breakfast club at the Andros Diner, members at the Coast Guard Academy and Station in New Haven, Luigi’s Cannoli Pie Company, the VA, and more. His presence will be greatly missed by many.
