Obituary of Rachel M. Mitchell

Rachel M. (Halagera) Mitchell, age 95 of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late William A. Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. Born on October 21, 1925 in Minonk, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Bernice (Glowacki) Halagera. Rachel was a competitive golfer who served as president of the Tashua Knolls Women’s Golf Association in 2004 and 2005.  She went on to become an honorary member of Tashua Knolls Golf course.  She also enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and bridge.  She always had a book within reach as she loved to read.  Crossword puzzles were her daily challenge that she enjoyed immensely.  A favorite pastime of hers was watching the Yankees and commenting on everything they did wrong to whoever would listen.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Rachel is survived by her beloved children, Laurel Macura and her husband Dennis of Trumbull, Thomas Mitchell and his wife Cathy of Florida, and Michael Mitchell of Trumbull, her 11 adored grandchildren, 17 cherished great grandchildren, and her loving sister Ruth Schneider of Illinois. In addition to her husband William, she was predeceased by her son, William A. Mitchell, Jr, grandsons Dennis Macura and Noah Mitchell and many brothers and sisters.

Due to the concerns about social gatherings affecting us all at this time, funeral and interment services will be held privately for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. directly at the Tashua Knolls Country Club, 40 Tashua Knolls Ln, Trumbull, CT 06611. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to West Haven VA Hospital, 950 Campbell Avenue, West Haven, CT 06516.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull.
