Obituary of Sandra M. Cappello

Sandra Marie Yoney Cappello, 79, of Weston, beloved wife of Dr. John J. Cappello, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 18, 1941 in Bridgeport, CT and was the oldest daughter of the late William and Josephine Yoney.

Sandy graduated from Central High School and St. Vincent's School of Nursing. Upon graduation from nursing school, Sandy relocated with her husband to Philadelphia. She was employed at Presbyterian Hospital while her husband John was attending dental school. Upon John's commencement, they returned to CT where Sandy continued her nursing career at St. Vincent's Hospital. She eventually left the nursing profession to raise her children and to manage her husband's dental practice in Trumbull. Sandy maintained the close friendships she attained during her time in nursing school, and truly enjoyed the annual reunions with her 1962 St. Vincent's classmates.

Sandy raised her four children in Weston. She was a lover of arts & crafts and ran the annual Christmas Bazaar at St. Francis of Assisi Church for many years. She also taught several years of religious education to children of the St Francis parish. Sandy was a member of the 9-holers golf league at Tashua, and an avid bowler in the Early Riser bowling League at Nutmeg Bowling Alley. Keeping very active throughout her life, Sandy would often spend hours at a time gardening, decorating, sewing, and doing home improvement projects.

Above everything, Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren's participation in sports and other activities. She looked forward to her weekly lunches and shopping outings with her sisters. Sandy thoroughly enjoyed preparing outstanding meals for her family and her many friends. Always the caregiver, she would often bring meals to those recovering from illness or surgery. Sandy was best known for her compassionate, selfless and loving ways. She would spend countless hours consoling friends and loved ones in times of sorrow, offering advice, and sharing in the joyful events and accomplishments of others. Sandy had a true love of life and her radiant smile could light up a room. Those around her could not help but feel special and loved. She had a tremendous impact on the lives of so many individuals, and will be sorely missed by her many friends, and of course her loving family.

In addition to her beloved husband of 58 years, John, survivors include her four loving children, Kimberlee Fischer and her husband Doug, John Cappello Jr. and his wife Rachel, Tiffany Sisson and her husband Craig, and Dr. William Cappello, eight cherished grandchildren Cassie, Luke, Nick, Jake, Josh, Jared, Sammie, and Jack, two sisters, Carol Paolillo and her husband Louis and Candace Fusco and her husband Edward, as well as several nieces and nephews.
