Obituary of Lorraine E. Leone
Our Mom, Lorraine Leone
Our Mom is an amazing woman who dedicated her extensive career to helping others as an Operating Room nurse--at Bridgeport Hospital!
Our Mom was born to two courageous Italian immigrant parents.
She was raised by her mother from the age of 9, who was widowed when her husband (our Mom's father) died unexpectedly.
From her mother, who worked multiple jobs to provide our Mom with a good home and life, our Mom knew the meaning of hard work, self-discipline, and integrity, and she walked the talk.
She sought out a career as an RN to challenge her mind, make living, and make a difference in the world, at a time when such independent career paths were not typically encouraged in young women.
She is a fierce defender and advocate for her family, what she believes is right, her patients while an OR nurse, friends, and even a stranger if she noticed they might be being taken advantage of.
She believes in listening to the opinions and input of others and then making one's own decision.
She would say that while necessity is the mother of invention, improvisation is the name of the game.
She loves Cockatiels and has had her current avian companion for several years- Rhonda is now caring for him.
She always wanted to have a sea-view and, after retirement, found a home with just such a view. It has, on a daily basis, brought her great joy.
She has always valued her independence, and has always had a strong quick, clear, mind that can pinpoint the heart of a matter in an instant.
She has long enjoyed following the stock market and, in her retirement, also developed a love for rock-hounding!
She enjoys tag sales, happy snowmen, Johann Strauss (especially the Blue Danube) and sudoku.
She is a voracious reader of books with happy endings…
And she loves her family beyond words, as we all do her.
She has lived an extraordinary life and has throughout it enjoyed travel with her beloved husband Lou, and with her daughters and their families to places both near and far, even camping across country when in her late 60's- in a tent!
She was as comfortable in a quarry digging for semi-precious stones as hosting family multi-course holiday meals.
Whatever this next transformation is for her, she deserves it to be wonderful.
Mom is predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Leone, (her parents, Mary and Louis Taborelli and Albert Albini). She is survived by her devoted daughters and their loving families: Rhonda Leone, Renee Leone, and Laura Leone; their families: Gary and Ryan Russo, Richard and Bryce Kobe, and Alex and Samantha Torricos. Our family would like to thank the amazing doctors, nurses, and palliative care team at Bridgeport Hospital. Abriola Funeral Home will be overseeing online condolences and a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Doctors without Borders, Voters Not Politicians, the American Cancer Society, or a charity or your choice. A memorial service will be planned, post Covid-19, to celebrate Mom's life.
With much love, Rhonda, Renee and Laura
