Lester R. Knecht, age 81, of Trumbull, died Friday May 22, 2009 at St. Vincent Medical Center. A long time Trumbull resident Lester was born in Astoria New York on May 28, 1927 to Walter and Helen Osterberg Knecht. Lester served in World War II in the U.S. Navy Seabees C.B. (Construction Battalion) in Okinawa. He enjoyed tractors and animals on his Peaceful Acres Farm. He was the owner of Knechts Garage, Knechts Shell and Knechts Car Wash. He is a past Fire Chief of Trumbull Center Fire Dept., Member of the Washington Lodge #19, Scottish Right 32nd Degree Mason, Member of the American Legion Post and Trumbull Congregational Church.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Knecht and a sister, Edythe Vitalie.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Bibbins Knecht, his children, Stanley and his wife Sally of Lancaster N.H., Richard and his wife Diane of Easton, Donald and his wife Cindy of Monroe and Ruth Linley of Seymour, nine grandchildren, Shannon, Baillie, Jacob, Andrew, Samuel and Sandra Knecht, Albert III, Jamie and Mathew Linley, brothers, Elliott and his wife Jane, Ernest and his wife Jeanne, David and his wife Ethel, and his sister-in-law Jessie Knecht, brothers-in-law, Winthrop Bibbins and his wife Dorothy and David Bibbins and his wife Nancy as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will take place on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. in Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave Trumbull. Interment will follow in the Trumbull Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave., Trumbull, CT 06611 or a charity of your choice or plant a shrub or tree in his memory.
