Obituary of Eva M. Kershner

January 20, 2010 Resident of Bridgeport Eva M. Kershner, age 89, of Bridgeport, passed into eternity on Wednesday, January 20, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Kershner spent over 20 years working as a coordinator of the WIC Program. In this capacity, she worked tirelessly to promote the health and welfare of children and mothers. Prior to this position, her excellent organizational skills were employed at the Bridgeport Brass Company where she was an executive secretary. However, she derived equal satisfaction from her unpaid work. She was a pioneer in the labor movement, helping her husband the late union leader, Leonard (Hank) Kershner in his efforts to improve economic lives of Connecticuts working people. She volunteered to type hundreds of legal briefs and letters and performed administrative functions. Other volunteer work has included activities for the Red Cross and League of Women Voters (for whom she served a term as vice president during the 1960s). Mrs. Kershner is survived by her daughter Leah Moran and her husband Lyle, her daughter Monica Peterson and her husband Mark, and four grandchildren, Jessica and Kurt Peterson, Fallon and Joshua Moran and Melissa Hernandez. She is also survived by her sister Julia Forte, sisters-in-law Rose Renzulli and Ingrid Kershner, great grandchildren Brianna and Adam Moran and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kershner is pre-deceased by her parents Plautilla and Carmine Renzulli, mother-in-law Mollie Kershner, brother Michael Renzulli, grandson Tavish Moran, son-in-law Benjamin Rosino and brothers-in-law Harold Kershner, Isaac Kershner, Melvin Kershner and Francis Forte.
