Obituary of Luigi Cassano
Luigi "Gino" Cassano, age 78, of Shelton, beloved husband of Giovanna Prestigiacomo Cassano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Born on April 12, 1941 in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, he was a son of the late Domenico and Giuseppa Davi Cassano. While in Sicily, he met the love of his life, Giovanna. He was employed as a mechanic for FIAT in Sicily and upon coming to the U.S., he continued as a mechanic for a short time. He then began to work alongside his brother-in-law, Tony, as tile finisher; where he would work for over 40 years. He took great pride in his garden, flowers, fruit trees and landscaping. But above all he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather; the love he gave will always live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, Giovanna, survivors include two loving sons, Domenico Cassano, of Yonkers, NY and Joe Cassano and his wife Antonella of Kerhonkson, NY, three cherished granddaughters, Deanna, Angelina and Nicolina, a brother, Giovanni Cassano of New York, NY, two sisters, Santa Cassano and Maria LoPiccolo of Palermo, Italy, sister-in-law, Gerry Muscarella and her husband Joe of Shelton, brother-in-law, Antonio Prestigiacomo and his wife Barbara of Yonkers, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Paolo Cassano.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, New York. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611.
