Obituary of John E. Slivka

John E. Slivka, age 87, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Gaylord Hospital, Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Barbro Olson Slivka. Born in Bridgeport on November 2, 1931, he was a son of the late John and Ann Povetz Slivka. Mr. Slivka was an educator in the Trumbull Public School system for 15 years, having taught at numerous schools such as Middlebrook, Hillcrest, and Daniels Farm. He then served as an administrator and teacher for 25 years at Christian Heritage School in Trumbull until his retirement. His faith was of great importance and evident as a longtime member of Calvary Church which also included singing in their choir. He enjoyed woodworking and also spending time in his yard, however, his greatest enjoyment was found in the time he spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

In addition to his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbro, other survivors include his loving children, Sharon Smoker of Malvern, PA, Cindy Butkus and her husband John of Trumbull, Diane VanDyk and her husband Barry of Ocean, NJ and Donna Douglass and her husband Paul of Trumbull, his cherished grandchildren, Sonja, Tim, Sarah, David, Jennifer, John, Joshua, Jocelyn, Jacob, Andrew, Carissa, Wesley, Matthew and Peter, 16 adored great grandchildren, his sister, Nancy Slivka of FL, and his brothers, William Slivka of TX, Ron Slivka and his wife Eve of FL and Rich Slivka and his wife Terri of CO.

 

A Memorial Service celebrating John's life will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 498 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Christian Heritage School.
