It's been almost 5 years since we lost Phil, and I think of him every day. At times, I've come back to this site to just to marvel at the comments and to wonder "why?" What a loss for humanity that he was taken too soon. He's one of the only people I have ever-- and likely will ever meet who always made me feel like the center of the room, regardless of how many people were around him. He had that way about him. He was genuine; caring; balanced and the exact type of person, and physician, the world needed as we hurtled through the pandemic. I was with Phil once and he was on the phone in a heated discussion with another doctor who was refusing to operate with Phil on a high-risk patient. Phil hung up, frustrated, looked and me and said "I'm the only one who can save this guy from going blind... can you imagine another doctor not wanting to help?" That was the type of selfless person he was. He is the first person I think of when I think of George Patton's most famous quote: "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived." He was truly a man for others, and I will always be thankful for Phil. No good thing ever dies, cousin. You will always be in my heart.--your cousin, John L.

My condolences to all his family. We graduated together, I became a dermatologist...much easier than ophtho lol. I remember his white MG Midget, loved that car! We got through organic chem together! Life took us separate ways but I will always remember him.

Dr. Falcone saved my eye and my life. He came out in the middle of the night--around ten o'clock, if I recall correctly, to confirm and deal with a detached retina. After trying two times to deal with this without surgery, it became obvious he needed to operate. So on the third day, that's what we did. He literally save the eye, putting in a sceleral buckle, and then, years after, with the buckle was splitting, he removed it. He was the most caring, gentle, top-notch retina doctor around. I was shocked when I went for my yearly exam to learn the news. I will always credit him with saving my eyesight and my sanity. Rest in peace. My condolences to his family, whom he always spoke of with love.

I came across this very sad news by happenstance. I was a third year medical student at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC rotating through the Internal Medicine service with Dr. Falcone as the intern. Phil was brilliant and taught me a lot about internal medicine but the lessons he imparted to me extended beyond. He taught me how to prioritize patient care, how to be efficient and how to effectively communicate with nursing and ancillary staff to get the job done. His most important lesson to me was to always document each visit to a patient's bedside into the chart, no matter how trivial, so no one can say I was not there. He was truly a role model.. I want to extend belated condolences to his family and friends. His legacy does live on.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Dr. Falcone's sudden passing. He was such a great guy, so compassionate, kind and professional. He took care of Margaret Harper, as her retina specialist, for many years, with her macular degeneration. I had the pleasure for the past six years of being her caregiver and always looked forward to our appointments with Dr. Falcone because he was so kind. Margaret, Dr. Falcone and I all shared the same birthday, Nov. 23rd! Margaret passed away in July. I imagine they are both smiling down on us from heaven. My heartfelt condolences go out to you, Michelle, and your children, during this difficult time. He was a remarkable man who will be missed by many.
God Bless.
