Even though I never got to meet Dick, I feel as though I knew him through his wife, Kathy. He built us a birdhouse which is beautiful and hanging on my tree in the front yard. I will always think of Dick when I look at it. I am so sorry to the whole family. I know he was a wonderful man.

The minute I met Dick, I knew I liked him, he was wicked funny, compassionate, loved dogs and was crazy about my sister. Duck was a guy you never forget meeting, a true character. I am so happy Kathy had him in her life and shared him with our family.

Dick- though few and far between, it was always great to see you and Kathy.
Kathy- you were always such a great couple, and I am sorry for your loss. You clearly were good for each other, and that is no small thing. Not everyone can say that.
Celebrate the good times and memories-

Dear Dick,
Some people blow in and out of lives without much impact or fanfare. They just sort of breeze in and breeze out and in a week or so and become old “whats’ his name”. This is not the case here. You approached me at a rather difficult time in my life and was not only willing to listen but to revisit your own past and share your tough moments with me. You did this at a time when it would have been very easy for you to do otherwise. You didn’t have to say anything and I certainly wouldn’t have thought anything should you have chosen differently. I am glad you chose to reach out to me. Through that small, selfless action a friendship was born. Not one of convenience by any means, but one forged on the anvil of life.
You were good enough to share your stories with me, from being a speed skater (Who knew!!), the cars, the boats and your adventures growing up in Stamford. Like at least one or two Irishman before you, you had a knack for a story and a joke. Somehow in your “take no prisoners” sense of humor you always conveyed a spirit of caring. I came to know the man behind the cigarette had a heart of gold.
So now it’s time to say goodbye.
There is an awful I could say about you, my friend.
I suppose I knew it was coming, but like so many events in this life it seems sooner than expected.
I appreciate more than I could ever write here, your willingness to share your own life’s heartaches to help others with theirs.
I would want you to know I recognize the fact, you are not one to shout encouragement from afar, but you would walk the path of shadows with the stricken soul. One hand on their shoulder and poking them in the ribs with the other.
I know I’m not the only one you helped, but somehow you had a knack for making me feel as though I was the only one at that moment.
I hoped you know how I looked forward to your "How Ya DOOOOin?” and that crooked smile.
Your’s were typically the first texts I would get in the morning. Even as they became later and more sporadic your encouragement and hearts sent were very much appreciated.
I am avoiding the real point of course.
I am going to miss you.
It was hard to watch you fade and I didn’t want to see you leave this side of eternity but denial or not, I knew it was time for us to part company.
You deserve the peace in which you now rest, the same peace which seems to elude a lot of us on this side of the fence.
Your gentle way I could only hope to replicate.
Your lessons on life will not be forgotten.
I love you Brother.
Godspeed.
