Obituary of Edward T. Burns
Edward T. Burns Jr., age 88, beloved husband of Josephine Burns, passed away peacefully at his home in Stratford on Friday, January 11, 2019 with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Edward T. Burns Sr. and Nellie Pollack Burns.
Born in New Haven on September 28,1930, he grew up in Bridgeport and graduated Central High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army Tank Corps and fought in the battle of Pork Chop Hill in the Korean War.
He married Josephine Mascia in 1955. In 1957, he pooled all of his resources together to buy a used dump truck and established Burns Construction Co. in Stratford.
He was Co-Founder of the 1st Boy Scout Troop at St. Mark School in Stratford, and participated in the YMCA Indian Guides with his five sons. He was a member of St. Mark's Men's League for 50 years.
He loved travelling abroad, tending to his garden, and frequenting the area's Casinos. He enjoyed golfing, but was passionate about the gin rummy card games with his buddies at Mill River Country Club, where he was a member for 40 years. He was as tough as steel, but had a heart of gold, donating to many charitable organizations, including Spina Bifida, as well as the Catholic Church.
He is pre-deceased by his brother Charles Burns, and youngest son John Patrick Burns. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Josephine, four sons: Edward T. Burns III and his wife Pamela, Richard Burns and his wife Deborah, Kenneth Burns and his wife Donna, Ronald Burns and his husband Louis. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Edward Burns IV and his wife Meghan, Jessica Burns Butanowitz and her husband Ryan, Melissa Burns, Richard Burns Jr. and his wife Diana, Brendan Burns, Nicholas Burns, Rachel Burns, Kenneth Burns Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, Joseph Burns, Monica Burns, and Isabella Burns, in addition to 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The Family would like to thank Mu'Ammar Camara for his devotion and loving care the last three years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in Putney Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
