Obituary of George J. Mihelik

George J. Mihelik, age 89, beloved husband of Jean Gorlo Mihelik of Shelton, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Scranton, PA on August 28, 1929, he was a son of the late George and Mary Kuhar Mihelik and moved to Stratford in the early 40’s and later resided in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. George was a graduate of Bassick High School, class of 1947 and a U.S. Army Veteran stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Before his retirement in 1994, he was a machinist for 36 years with Avco Lycoming/Textron. Every Sunday, for over 20 years, George ushered at the 7:30 a.m. mass. He enjoyed his retirement traveling, going on cruises, working outdoors and tending to his pride and joy–-angel trumpet lilies.
 
In addition to his beloved wife Jean of 57 years, survivors include his two loving children, Carol Mihelik of Bridgeport and Thomas Mihelik and his wife Holly of Shelton and two sisters, Cecelia Gannon of Bridgeport, Veronica Harrigan of Newtown as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph and four sisters, Elizabeth, Ethel, Mary and Christina.
 
Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Lawrence Church, on 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
