Obituary of Alfred J. Inzerra
Alfred J. Inzerra, age 93, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Jewish Senior Services Center. Born in Bridgeport on April 1, 1925, He was a son of the late Guiseppe and Concetta Montalbano Inzerra.
He graduated from St. Augustine’s School and Bassick High School. During World War II, Al served in the Merchant Marine and survived the sinking of his ship by a U-Boat during a convoy to Russia. He was a hard worker who owned and operated two businesses, a Texaco gas station in Bridgeport and the Discount Tire Center in Black Rock.
Most of all, Al loved his gardens. He always had a beautiful flower, fruit and vegetable garden, especially growing and nurturing his orchids and fig trees. He was a kind and gentle man and a friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by two nieces, Teresa Inzerra, and Christine Gurevitz and her husband Mark. Also, by two grand-nieces, Laura Gurevitz and Juliet Gurevitz. He is pre-deceased by his two brothers, Joseph Inzerra, and Leonard Inzerra and his wife Frances Capozziello-Inzerra.
Al’s family especially wants to thank all the caregivers in Scinto House at the Jewish Home for their compassionate and loving care during his time there.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements entrusted to Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
