Obituary of Charles R. Guerra

Charles R. Guerra, age 89, of Fairfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Mooney Guerra. Born in Bridgeport on July 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Esther Colonnese Guerra. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, where he made many lifelong friends. After working over 40 years at Reliable Steel Drum, Charles decided to focus on the family business which was started by his father in 1939. He became known to many as "Charlie the Lawnmower Man" as he continued to run Sport Hill Lawn Service for many years. He found great enjoyment on trips to the casino and dinner out, however, his passion was tending to business at his lawn mower shop and maintaining the friendships he acquired by helping people on a daily basis. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth, other survivors include his loving sons, Joseph Guerra and his wife Patricia of Stratford and Chuck Guerra and his wife Cathy of Seymour, three cherished grandchildren, Leah Peregolise and her husband Matthew of Easton, Joseph Guerra of Shelton and Nicole Guerra of Boston, MA, two adored great grandchildren, Matthew and Sean Peregolise. Other survivors include his special niece, Donna Vingo, as well as many additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Wetmore.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Cambridge Health Center and the Visiting Nurse Services of CT for their care and compassion.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
