Obituary of Frank A. Mercaldi

Frank A. Mercaldi, age 86, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Liz Bruccoleri Mercaldi. Born in Bridgeport on April 4, 1932, he was a son of the late Michael and Mildred Sanchione Mercaldi. Frank was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran who served honorably during the Korean War while aboard the U.S.S. Hale and U.S.S. Hood. Frank traveled around the world twice. Upon his return from the war, Frank was a foreman for E&F Construction before becoming the Chief Building Official for the City of Bridgeport, where he gave many dedicated years before his retirement. Frank loved the N.Y. Giants and the Boston Red Sox and was also an avid golfer. He looked forward to his daily round at the Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course where he built many lasting relationships. His greatest enjoyment however was found in the time he spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Liz, other survivors include his children, Frank Mercaldi, Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL, Lisa Guerrere and her husband Robert of Monroe and Michael Mercaldi of West Dover, VT, his three cherished grandchildren, Michael Guerrere and his wife Tessy, Michelle Guerrere and Jessica Mercaldi. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Mercaldi and his wife Jean of Southbury, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise LaChioma.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the St. Joseph Center and Vitas Hospice for their care and compassion, as well as Dr. Manuel Pun for his expertise and guidance over the past 20 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
