Obituary of Virginia Ann Riccio

Virginia A. Forte Riccio, age 80, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Augustine C. Riccio. Born in Bridgeport on December 11, 1937 she was a daughter of the late Michael and Marie Lawley Forte. Virginia had been employed by Universal Adjustment Services, where she worked in sales with over 35 years of dedicated service before her retirement. A woman of great faith, she was very active in her parishes of St. Ann's, Bridgeport, St. Lawrence, Shelton and then St. Michaels, Myrtle Beach, SC, where she also belonged to the Red Hatters Club. She was a longtime volunteer with the Special Olympics, but above all else, she treasured the time she spent with family and friends. Virginia's life can best be described by the four F's…..Faith, Family, Friendship, and being a Fighter. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her three loving sons, Mathew Riccio and his wife Karin of Shelton, James Riccio and his wife Sharon of Stratford and Richard Riccio and his wife Judith of Germantown, MD, her nine cherished grandchildren, Katie, Cindy, Rachel, Jimmy, Angela, Justin, John, Zachary and Donna, her eight adored great grandchildren, Nathan, Kevin, Anthony, Julia, Nicolas, Riley, Eire and Aaron, and her beloved great great grandson, Elias. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Dawn and Lisa, sisters-in-law, Norma and Linda, her brother-in-law, Russ and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Augustine, she was also predeceased by her sister, Donna Vecsey and her brother, Robert Forte. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Benchmark Assisted Living at Split Rock and Caring Hospice Services for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shelton Special Olympics, c/o Patti McCormack, 28 Greenacre Drive, Shelton, CT 06484.
