Obituary of James G. DeMayo

James Gordon DeMayo (87) of Trumbull, CT went to be with our Lord on Monday, June 19, 2017 while at home surrounded by his family.  He was born June 7, 1930, North Adams, MA. a son of the late Louis and Jessie DeMayo. Jim graduated from Williamstown High School in 1948 and attended Norwich University, graduating in 1952.  He served as a 1st Lt in the United States Army during the Korean War.  After his stint in the Army, he joined the JC Penny Company where he spent the majority of his business career.   During his career with Penney’s, Jim moved with his family from the east to west coast and back again making many lifetime friends in the process.  After retiring from J C Penney, he completed his career as a consultant for Lee Hecht Harrison.  Jim loved music; he played the trumpet, sang in the church choir and the Chordsmen, a men’s barbershop group in Wilmington, NC.  He and his wife, Esther (his life-long dance partner) were also active members of the New Hanover Cotillion. In retirement, Jim was an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, working in their retail store.  Survivors include his wife, Esther (Smith) DeMayo, whom he married in 1952. Two daughters, Carla DeMayo-Ruiz and her husband Joseph Ruiz of Richmond, VA, Laura (DeMayo) Sirianni and her husband Anthony Sirianni of Trumbull, CT. Three grandchildren Nathan Ruiz, Ashley Poisella (Chris) and Nicole Raeder.  Two great-grandchildren Greyson and Harper Poisella.  Two sisters, Mary Lou Galusha of Williamstown, Joan Maddock and her husband, Curt, of Castle Rock, CO. One brother, Louis DeMayo and his wife, Pam, of Dennis, MA, sister-in-law Carol DeMayo and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim is pre-deceased by one brother, Richard (Dick) DeMayo.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, 6/23 from 4-6 PM at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull, CT. A funeral mass will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church, 4700 Madison Avenue in Trumbull on Saturday, 6/24 at 12 noon. Interment will be held on Saturday, 7/8 at 10 AM at East Lawn Cemetery, Williamstown, MA.
