Obituary of Mark W. Kunkel
Mark Washburn Kunkel, age 71, of Shelton, beloved husband of Maureen Herlihy Kunkel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Born in Bridgeport to John and Grace Washburn Kunkel, he spent most of his life in Trumbull, having recently moved to Shelton. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mark served with the Seabees, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. In warmer weather, Mark enjoyed helping with the day to day activities at Candee Farm in Easton.
In addition to his wife, Maureen, Mark is survived by his three sons, Michael and his wife Tricia of Stratford, Matthew and his wife Leah of Trumbull, and Dan of Trumbull, four grandchildren, Nicholas, Ava, Addison and Julia Kunkel. Mark is also survived by his siblings, brothers, John of Westport, Joel and his wife Susan of Trumbull, Peter and his wife Carleen of Trumbull and Gerard and his wife Eileen of Long Island and a sister, GraceMary Kunkel of Boston, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Kunkel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00 am directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4–7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 126 Monroe Turnpike, Trumbull, CT 06611.
