Obituary of Veda H. Baird-Rookwood

Veda H. Baird-Rookwood, age 80, of Stratford, CT, beloved wife of the late Seymour I. Rookwood passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies on February 4, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Iris Smith Baird. Before her retirement, Veda was an auditor at Blue Cross and Blue Shield with over 28 years of service. Survivors include her loving son, Michael Ashwood and his wife Karin of Fairfield, CT, a daughter, Marcia Robinson of Dubai, two cherished grandchildren, Isabel C. Ashwood and Gabriel A. Ashwood both of Fairfield, CT, a brother, Norman Dowell and his wife Lois of Bronx, NY, two sisters, Melva Nancoo of East Meadow, NY and Amy Small of Nassau, Bahamas, a stepson, Mark Rookwood of CA, a stepdaughter, Susan Rookwood of Jamaica and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Dudley, Carlos Baird and Clavell Rodney and sisters, Ena Rodney and Olga Baird. Friends are invited to meet directly in Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Pl., Yonkers, New York on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, 50 Jackson Ave. & Saw Mill River Rd., Hastings on Hudson, NY. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
