Obituary of Gladys Lopez

Gladys Rodriguez Lopez, age 89, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of Angel L. Lopez, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016 at CT Hospice, Branford after a long illness. Born on September 10, 1927 in Llanadas, Isabela, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Juan B. Rodriguez and Carmen Figueroa. Upon her arrival in the United States, Gladys began a career as a seamstress and worked for many years perfecting her craft. Along with her husband, together they worked hard to provide their daughters a better life, teaching them to have strong values, faith and integrity. A woman of faith, she was instrumental in assisting people arriving from Puerto Rico and providing them with support and access to the many churches she assisted in establishing for the Puerto Rican community. She was an animal lover and devoted much of her time to helping stray animals to find good homes and always made sure that the animals were well taken care of. But above all of these things, Gladys was a devoted and cherished wife, mother and grandmother. She treasured the time when the family was all together, especially her grandson. She enjoyed hosting many holiday's and always welcomed everyone into her home. The memories of love will always continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be truly missed by all. In addition to her beloved husband of 68 years, Angel, survivors include two devoted daughters, Carmen L. Lopez and her husband Dale W. Radcliffe and Ivette (Betty) Martinez all of Bridgeport, a cherished grandson, Michael A. Martinez; a sister, Guillermina Nieves and her husband Arcenio and their son, Milton Nieves all of Bridgeport; as well as many additional nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Iran Gomez and Dr. Christopher Luthi and their staff for the compassionate care provided to Gladys, as well as Ana Carrion for the loving care and companionship she gave to Gladys and to the staff of Connecticut Hospice, Branford, the family expresses a sincere appreciation and gratitude in making Gladys's final days so comforting. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial.
