Obituary of Donald J. Finnegan

Donald J. Finnegan, age 79 of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Joan Marie Fico Finnegan, peacefully passed away at his residence on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Born in Bridgeport on September 1, 1937, he was a son of the late Daniel A. and Florence Farrell Finnegan. Don proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany, as well as a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 16. Don retired as a dump truck driver from Burns Construction Company in Stratford. He was a member of the Local 665 Laborers Union and some of his happiest times and memories were always of his time spent at Burns. Don was also a dedicated fan of the UCONN Huskies, where he would schedule his days and nights around all their games. Survivors include two sons, James Finnegan and his wife Shari of Trumbull and Joseph Finnegan and his fiancé, Leigh Carbone of Sarasota, FL, a daughter, Donna Engelman and her husband Fred of Trumbull, a daughter-in-law Carolyn Finnegan of Oklahoma, and a precious niece who he thought of as a daughter as well, Mary Finnegan of Milford. Don had seven grandchildren, Victoria Marie and Jessica of Trumbull, Connor of Florida, Emily and Jackson of Oklahoma, and Ashley and Taylor Engelman of Trumbull; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Don was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family through the funeral director.
