Obituary of Lydia Bette Wakeman

Lydia "Lee" Bette Wakeman, age 74 of Trumbull and beloved wife of William Wakeman, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on April 28, 1942 in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of the late Carl V. Nelson and Barbara Marky Belco. Lee was an accountant with American Frozen Foods for nearly 44 years. Lee dedicated her spare time volunteering at the United Church of Christ in Bridgeport, where she was a member of many organizations. She enjoyed tending to her garden and reading, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her granddaughter Shannon. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be truly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her beloved husband William of 54 years, she is survived by her cherished daughter Meredith L. Tomas and her husband Richard of Stratford, her adored granddaughter Shannon M. Tomas, her two sisters Barbara Wendel of Stratford and Susan Thompson of Huntington, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Smilow Cancer Center in New Haven for their dedication and care for Lee during her time of need. Friends are invited to meet directly in the United Church of Christ, 2180 North Ave, Bridgeport on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. for a Funeral Service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lee's memory to a charity of one's choice.
