Obituary of David J. Martin Sr.

David J. Martin Sr., age 77, beloved husband of Dell (Duda) Martin of Oxford and formerly of Trumbull, a retired detective for the Trumbull Police Department, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born and raised in Bridgeport on February 25, 1939, he was a son of the late James (Val) and Mary Mulligan Martin. After graduating from Warren Harding High School, Dave enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Handy and Harmon, the Bridgeport Post and then began a 32 year career with the Trumbull Police Department. Following his retirement, he worked closely along with his wife Dell and the family at the former Del-Mar Florist, Trumbull. Dave and Dell traveled extensively, enjoyed cruising and visiting the casinos. Dave was a huge Boston Red Sox Fan. He was predeceased by his brothers, James D. and John F. Martin. In addition to his wife Dell of 51 years, survivors include his children, Dr. David J. Martin and his wife Lauren Manjoney-Martin of Easton, Darlene Ferris and her husband Kevin of Trumbull, Dawn Hersch and her husband Rich of Monroe and Dan Martin and his wife Tina Christo-Martin of Milford, his 12 cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Luke Martin, Rose, Ryan, Sean, Mary and Ella Ferris, Jaimee, Matthew and Rachel Hersch and Matthew and Paul Martin and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of donations, those desiring can honor Dave's memory with flowers.
