Obituary of Ruth Torony

Ruth Tkacs Torony, age 84, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Friday, July 29, 2016 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the widow of Richard Torony after 46 years of marriage. She was the daughter of Mary (Hluska) and Nicholas Tkacs. Born in Stratford on May 31, 1932, she was an area resident all of her life spending the last 55+ years in Trumbull. She was a graduate of William Harding High School, class of 1950. While her children were in school, she was active in the PTA. At the age of 42, Ruth went to Bullard- Havens and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and spent most of her nursing years at Park City Hospital. She became a collector of stuffed animals. She would wash them, dry them, put ribbons on them and then distribute them to schools mostly in Bridgeport at Christmas time. At one time, the stuffed animals occupied three rooms in her house. While her husband was alive, they went to at least a dozen Caribbean islands in the winter, where they enjoyed snorkeling. She leaves four children, Cynthia Smith of Branford, Sandra (Greg) Maret of Pownal VT, Joan (Mark) Leone of Oxford and Jim (Lynn) Torony of Southbury, 10 grandchildren, Caitlin (Gerald) Uribe, Brian and Conor Smith, Andrea, Elizabeth and Hannah Maret, Justin and Stephanie Leone and Ryan and Rachael Torony, sister-in-law Carolyn Tkacs of Ocala FL and close in-laws, Eva Kozak of Bridgeport and Rita and Nicholas Panettieri of Trumbull as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert Tkacs and his wife Doris and Raymond Tkacs and her sister, Mary Costanzo. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Panachida Service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 101 St. John’s Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611.
