Obituary of Dolores Mainiero Pellegrino

Dolores Mainiero Pellegrino, 102, died on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in New Milford Hospital. The daughter of the late Vincent and Grace Del Vecchio Mainiero, she was born in Castelfranco in Miscano, Provincial di Benevento, Italy on January 31, 1914, and was the daughter of naturalized American citizens. She came to the United States with her parents and siblings in 1930. A talented and accomplished seamstress, she worked during her adult life in Bridgeport dress shops and was always assigned meticulous tasks, requiring her particular skills. In 1939, she married Lawrence Pellegrino whom she survived by 36 years. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, to Canada and Vermont and spending time with her nieces, her nephews and her siblings. In her mid-90s, while living at the Middlebrook Farms assisted living facility, she entertained her fellow residents by running Bingo games three times a week, Roulette on Sunday's and Pinochle games on Saturday. She went backwards in her living arrangements by moving to independent living at Chestnut Grove in New Milford, her last residence. She is survived by her brother Vincent A. Mainiero and his wife, Elizabeth, of Milford, and her dedicated niece April Mathews Crumrine, of Washington Depot, who with her husband Donald Crumrine, financed and oversaw many of Dolores' needs through the years. The Crumrines and their young adult children, Tabor, Alana Dolores, Linden and Aydan were devoted to Dolores, and Dolores served as a surrogate "grandmother" to the Crumrine children. Dolores is also survived by four generations of nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Prayer Services will be held on Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Per Dolores’ request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name through the Funeral Director . Please make checks payable to April Crumrine.
