Obituary of Evelyn G. Canto

Evelyn G. Bruno Canto, age 99, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Ralph Canto, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, on October 15, 1916, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose Vendetti Bruno. Evelyn was employed by the former Bridgeport Brass Co. before her retirement. She took great enjoyment in the time she spent with her family and friends. She loved to be surrounded by all of her nieces and great nieces and nephews. She was a devoted sister, sister-in-law and aunt and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband Ralph, she was predeceased by her sister, Anna Bruno, her brother Nicholas Bruno and two nieces, Beverly Scarpetti and Karen R. Dickinson. Survivors include her loving sister-in-law, Antoinette Bruno of Trumbull, niece, Linda Anne Newton of Milford, nephews, Donald Scarpetti and his wife Paulette of North Haven and Stephen Dickinson of England, great nieces and nephews, Christopher, Brian and Ashley Newton, Francis Zwierlein III and his wife Cortney, Donald Scarpetti II and his wife Christine, Katherine Scarpetti and James Dickinson and her dear friend and roommate, Helen Downs. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Jewish Home, especially Donette and the hospice unit for the compassionate and professional care given to Evelyn during her time of need. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Shrine, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
