Obituary of William V. Rodgerson

William Vincent “Vinny” Rodgerson, at age 99, returned to his Heavenly Father at home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Ellen Aubin Rodgerson. Born on Dec. 16, 1916, in Bridgeport to the late Daniel and Catherine Rodgerson, he was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. Vinny was a graduate of both Bryant and Brown Universities in RI with degrees in Accounting & Engineering. He worked as a supervisor for G.E. in the Wire & Cable Division during the war effort. He was the owner of Wood Ave. Body Shop and Rodgerson Construction Co. as an accomplished local home builder. Later he served as Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Bridgeport until retirement. Vinny was a lifetime supporter and troop committee member of the B.S.A. with 3 sons and 13 grandsons obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He also served as Trustee on the Lay Advisory Board for Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. In retirement, he loved his time at Roy Carpenter Beach in Matunuck, RI., as well as his weekly senior center card group. He will be deeply missed by his children: Arlene Rodgerson Volpe and partner Tom Gargiulo; William, Jr.; James and wife, June; Kenneth; Donald and wife JoAnne; Ronald; Gary; Ellen Rodgerson Nelly and husband, Joe; Alan; and his caregiver for over 20 years, Dennis and wife, Sherry; 33 Grandchildren; 53 Great-Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great- Grandchildren; many Nieces and Nephews; and his Card and Beach Friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Mark; and brother, Cliff. Special thanks to granddaughter, Marcella, for her devoted help in caring for Grampa. Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 163 Ortega Avenue, Bridgeport on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
