Obituary of Grace C. Oddie

Grace Cappozziello Oddie entered into rest on December 9th surrounded by her family. She was born on January 5, 1918. She is the daughter of the late Louis Cappozziello and Christine Nastri. She moved to Norwalk, CT to begin her married life in 1942 with her husband Joseph F. Oddie of Bridgeport. Grace is predeceased by her husband Joseph Oddie, her brother Dr. Anthony Cappozziello and her sister Frances Inzerra. She is survived by her four children Donna-Jeanne Oddie of Branford CT, Carole Oddie of Norwalk CT, Geoia Beyer and her husband Robert of Gardiner NY and Joseph F. Oddie Jr. and his wife Donna of Wallingford CT, her sister Helen Cafero of Norwalk and several nieces and nephews. Her loving grandchildren include Bryan Liberty of Gardiner NY, Michael Liberty and his wife Kelly of Stamford CT, Jennifer Liberty of Wallingford CT, and Taylor Young of Southington, CT, father of her two great-grandchildren Aubrey and Charlotte Young. Grace was a remarkable woman, loving and passionate about her family. She was a lifelong learner and giver, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She graduated from Central High School in 1936 before going on to graduate from Yale College of Physiotherapy in 1940, working as a Physical Therapist at St Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport CT. She attended the New York Fashion Institute where she learned sewing and dressmaking. In her later years she worked in the business department of the Bridgeport Post newspaper. Upon her retirement she volunteered in the Bridgeport Public Schools with the Literature Program where she read to students every week. Grace loved to cook, and her legendary culinary skills were always the centerpiece of every family gathering. A wake will be held on Monday, December 14 from 4 to 7 PM at Abriola Funeral Home at 419 White Plains Rd. in Trumbull CT. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday the 15th at St Catherine of Sienna Church, 220 Shelton Rd, Trumbull CT. with internment to follow at St. Michael's cemetery immediately following.
