Obituary of Charles L. Gellatly

Charles L. "Bub" Gellatly, age 87, of Westbrook and formerly of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Regina Mascia Gellatly. Born in Bridgeport on March 4, 1928 he was a son of the late John and Laura Wright Gellatly. Charlie entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 15 and served his country honorably in various missions during WWII including the battle of Iwo Jima. Upon Charlie's return to Bridgeport, he found his life's work in construction and is very proud of his record of 55 years of continuous employment as a bricklayer and member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Connecticut Local #1. Charlie and his wife Angie relocated to Westbrook in 1995 where they became very involved in the community. Charlie has served as President of the New England Village Homeowners Association and is active with the Westbrook Seniors. He has been a member of the Southbury Rod & Gun Club for many years and is quite active wildlife conservation efforts. Charlie has participated in a variety of activities which support the past and current service of his fellow veterans. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Iwo Jima Memorial Association, an officer of the Lyme-Old Lyme Post #1467 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Antique Veterans of Westbrook, a group of veteran volunteers whose members collectively render funeral honors to over 650 deceased veterans at services throughout Middlesex and New London Counties. In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, Angie, other survivors include his loving children, Raymond Gellatly and his wife Irma of CA and Daniel Gellatly and his wife Debbie of Branford, his five cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Rebecca, Amanda, Jovan and Alexander Gellatly. He was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Gellatly-Roy, his four brothers, John, Raymond, Daniel and William Gellatly and his three sisters, Marjorie Emerian, Etta Gourley and Ida Brennan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:45 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
