Obituary of Gaetano Furnari
Gaetano Furnari, age 97, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Maria Ortenzia Furnari, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Gaggi, Sicily, Italy on April 9, 1918, he was a son of the late Alfio and Carmela Crisafulli Furnari. He was a veteran of the Italian Army serving during World War II as a paratrooper. He came to the United States in 1956, and worked as a mason with E & F Construction Co. Mr. Furnari was previously a resident of Bridgeport for many years before moving to Trumbull. He was proud to be the oldest member of Circolo Sportivo Italo Americano Club.
Survivors include his beloved children, son, Alfio Furnari and his companion, Rose Jerzak of Stratford, daughter-in-law, Carol Furnari of Stratford, daughter, Carmela Boughton and her husband, Robert of Bridgeport, son, Joseph Furnari and his wife, Isa of Trumbull, daughter, Phyllis Rega and her husband Frank III of Monroe. He also leaves ten grandchildren Donna Wagner, Thomas Furnari, MaryAnn Bourgeois and her husband, Eric, Eileen Wong and her husband, Brian, Amy Boughton, Michael Boughton, Anthony Furnari and his wife Ashley, Joseph Furnari Jr., Brooke Bouchard and her husband, Daryl and Marissa Esteves and her husband Daniel, seven great grandchildren, Joseph, Hailey, Mason, Emma, John, Cameron and Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his grandson Robert Boughton III, two brothers, Alfio and Salvatore Furnari and two sisters, Anna DiBartolo-Natale and Rosina Furnari.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
