Obituary of Joseph V. Ferrara

Joseph V. Ferrara, age 92, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Mary Ambruso Ferrara passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 1, 2006, surrounded by his family. Born in Avigliano, province of Basilicata, Italy on November 6, 1913, he was a son of the late Domenico and Maria Verrastro Ferrara. Mr. Ferrara was a resident of Bridgeport for over 25 years, and was previously a long time resident of Port Chester, New York, Stamford and Ocala, Florida. He retired from Exxon Mobil Co. with 40 years of service. He was a lector and past president of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, a Trustee and Catholic Action Chairman of the Knights of Columbus Father J. M. Grady Council #503, all of Port Chester, New York. He was also a Eucharistic minister for Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish of Ocala, Florida. Mr. Ferrara was an avid golfer with five holes in one to his credit. He also enjoyed playing softball. In addition to his wife, survivors include his five grateful children, Marilyn Mlynek of Bridgeport, Rosemary Ferrara and Kathy Keane of Bridgeport, Dolores Hanrahan and her husband, Keith of Trumbull, John Ferrara and his wife, Paula of Westbrook and Thomas Ferrara of Derby, ten grandchildren, Richard , Laurin, Kathleen, Kevin, Kris, Tim, Jonathon, Jessica, Anthony and Andrew, four great grandchildren, Cori, Amanda, Brandon and Kailee, a sister, Carmela Sorrento of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Anna Moran, a brother, Frank Ferrara and his son in law, Richard Mlynek. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
