Obituary of Maryann Halpin

Maryann (Velky) Halpin, age 50, of Monroe entered into eternal peace on Monday, February 4, 2008 after a long courageous battle. She was the beloved wife and best friend of John E. Halpin Jr. for 21 years. She was born on November 22, 1957 in Bridgeport, CT to Emily Ladamus Velky and the late Arthur Velky. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Velky. Maryann was a resident of Stratford for most of her life before moving to Monroe 15 years ago. She attended the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and was a 30 year employee of Bridgeport Hospital, spending 17 years in the Burn Unit caring for patients, serving as assistant Head Nurse and Interim Head Nurse. Maryann then worked in the Radiology Department before settling in as a Case Manager at Bridgeport Hospital. Maryann was a devout Catholic and belonged to St. Jude Parish where she had previously served as a parish board member. She was also a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol where she was a physical directress and a judge at the International SLET. Maryann was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association I & II, prior member Connecticut Burns Foundation. Maryann recently received the 2007 Fraternalist of the Year from the Northeast Fraternal Congress. She also coached girls softball at St. Jude and Monroe Parks & Recreation. Maryann donated time to Notre Dame Catholic High School as part of the Booster Club, working on the annual Cabaret. All just exemplifying the loving, caring person she was. Maryann is survived by her husband John, devoted sons John and Brian as well as her lovely best friend and daughter Lauren, her mother Emily Velky, sister Susan and her husband Methodist of Reading PA, her brother Thomas and his wife Sandra of Milford, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and also her many devoted friends. Also great thanks to Dr. David Witt and the Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, Monroe for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
