Obituary of John D. Semosky
John Donald Semosky, age 90, of Stratford, beloved husband of Patricia Carroll Semosky, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Fall River, MA on March 20, 1925, he was the eldest son of the late John and Mary Donovan Semosky.
Mr. Semosky was U. S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific with the Marines in Okinawa and was with the first group of Frogmen, who later became the Navy Seals. He was wounded in Okinawa and awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
He graduated from Arnold College with a Bachelors' Degree where he played football and continued his education earning his Masters' Degree and 6th year teaching certificate from the University of Bridgeport. He was a science teacher for over 30 years with the Bridgeport and Fairfield school systems before his retirement.
Mr. Semosky was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman, an award winning gardener, and voracious reader. He found great enjoyment in the time he spent traveling with his wife. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Patricia, survivors include two daughters, Catherine Steadly of Trumbull and Mary Kate Conroy and her husband James of Ridgefield, a brother, David R. Semosky and his wife MaryAnn of Stratford, five grandchildren, Ryan John Steadly and his wife Ashley of Charleston, SC, Christopher C. Steadly of Trumbull, Elizabeth A. Conroy, Peter D. Conroy and Catherine C. Conroy, all of Ridgefield as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son, John P. Semosky, two brother's Ronald and Robert, and two sister's Marilyn and Eleanor.
Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Mark's Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial with military honors to follow. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
