Obituary of Jose F. Escaleira

Jose Fernandes Escaleira, age 68, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Maria Adelaide Monteiro Dias Escaleira, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born on September 27, 1946 in Beca, Boticas, Portugal, he was a son of the late Elias Alves and Herminia Dos Anjos Fernandes. A veteran of the Portuguese Army, Jose came to the United States in 1970, living in New Bedford, MA for a short time before settling in Bridgeport. He was a member of the CT Laborers Union 665 for 25 years and was also a member of the Vasco da Gama Club in Bridgeport. Jose was a hardworking man, who loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandsons. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Maria, survivors include three loving children, Paul Escaleira of Trumbull, Elizabeth Duryea and her husband Brian of East Haven and Dinis Escaleira of Trumbull, two cherished grandsons, Brandon and Nicholas Duryea, a brother, Elizeu Alves and his wife Louise, three sisters, Maria Escaleira and her companion John Frade, Gloria Alves, all of New Bedford, MA and Mercedes Franco and her husband Jose of NC, a special nephew Armando Escaleira of Bridgeport, as well as many additional nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Sebastiao and Antonio Alves and a sister Adelaide Escaleira. Funeral services will take place on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
