Obituary of James Lawther

James Lawther, age 80, beloved husband of Sheila Brennan Lawther, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stirling, Scotland on April 19, 1935, he was the eldest son of the late William and Mary McCarroll Lawther. Before his retirement, Mr. Lawther was a driver with United Parcel Service for over 32 years as well as operating a handyman and carpentry business for many years. “Scotty” was a carpenter who loved to work with his hands and spent many hours in his workshop crafting beautiful things for his home and for his children’s homes. After retirement he enjoyed having a small carpentry business. He loved his church and loved to attend daily Mass, that’s what he missed most during the latter years of his Parkinson’s illness. In addition to his devoted wife, Sheila of 58 years, survivors include his loving children, Caroline Fain of Monroe, Kevin Lawther of FL and Elizabeth Buttiker and her husband Derek of Trumbull, a sister, Ann Selness of Wallingford, two brothers, George Lawther and his wife Betty of Centerbrook, Gerard Lawther and his wife Susan of Scotland, six grandchildren, Jonathan and Luke Fain, Emily James Lawther, Sophie Lawther, and Jacob and Catherine Buttiker as well as many nieces and nephew both in the U.S. and Scotland. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kaitlin Elizabeth Fain, a sister, Elizabeth Whyte and a brother, William Lawther. Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
