Obituary of Robert A. Schmidt

Robert A. Schmidt, age 77, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol Conte Schmidt. Born in Bridgeport on March 20, 1938, he was a son of the late Adolph and Anna Mychajlan Schmidt. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Robert had been employed by Anderson Little as the sales manager for over 25 years. He later retired from the City of Bridgeport Board of Education where he worked as a custodial supervisor. Mr. Schmidt was the Vice President of the St. Margaret's Senior's Club and was also a board member on the Fairfield County Credit Union. He was a die-hard supporter of the UConn Basketball Programs, New York Mets, Dallas Cowboys and Sacred Heart softball. His love for eating, dogs, boating and playing pinochle was clearly evident. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife Carol of nearly 55 years, other survivors include his loving children, Robert Schmidt of Bridgeport, Lynn Madar and her husband Robert of Trumbull and Kim Schmidt of Fort Mitchell, KY, two cherished grandchildren, Michelle and Robert Madar, his sister Ruth Dunlop of Stratford and sister-in-law, Evelyn Dudeck of Trumbull. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Wilhelmina Schmidt, Emma Lagerfeldt and Helen Malok. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. directly in New Life Church, 28 Hedgehog Rd., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends and relatives may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
