Obituary of Donald V. Tallman

Donald V. Tallman, age 96, of Sandy Hook, formerly of Trumbull, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Helene McCarthy Tallman. Don and Helene celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past summer. Born in Albany, NY on December 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Ivan and Blanche Stephen Tallman. Donald was a decorated World War II Army veteran. He was employed by the former CASCO Corporation as a time keeper for many years. Upon his retirement, Don and Helene moved to Washington, NH where he was the Treasurer of the Lake Ashuelot Home Association. After many years in NH, they moved to Venice, Florida. Don was active in Habitat for Humanity and helped build over 25 homes there. He was still helping roof homes in his late 80's. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, "Poppy", was a treasured member of the family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife Helene, other survivors include his three children, Richard Tallman of NY, Linda Scianna and her husband Sal of Sandy Hook and Lisa Buckmaster and her husband Scott of MN, his five cherished grandchildren, Kristin Scianna, Salvatore Scianna and his wife Kristen, Michael Scianna, Jenna Buckmaster and Trevor Buckmaster, three adored great grandchildren, Karli, Lucien and Calista Scianna, his sister, Lois Wallace of MI, as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
