Obituary of Barbara J. Gernat

Barbara Baker Scully Gernat, age 69, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Ronald P. Gernat, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport on June 13, 1944, she was a daughter of the late James T. and Elizabeth K. Patterson Baker. Was employed by Peoples United Bank and later retired from UBS Bank of Stamford as an administrative assistant. Barbara's love for the arts was exceeded only by the love for her family. An active member of the Bunnell High School Class of 1962, Barbara led the way in organizing their 50th reunion recently. The Lake Winnipesaukee region of New Hampshire was always a special place in her life. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey R. DeWitt and his wife, Kimberly of Norwalk, two daughters, Janice Scully of Stratford and Kathy Powers and her husband, Mark of Georgia, six grandchildren, Michelle L. DeWitt of Norwalk, Andrew Scully of Stratford, Derika, Damian, Ahren and Jenna Powers, all of Georgia, three sisters, Evelyn Clough of Stratford, Patricia Hovan of Haymarket, Virginia and Ingrid Chrismond of Trumbull. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 2301 Main St., Stratford. Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
