Obituary of John Burkman Atcherson

Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather John Burkman Atcherson (Atchie) age 84, of Stratford, a retired pumper engineer for the Bridgeport Fire Department with 33 years of service, died on Thursday, June 17, 2010 in Lord Chamberlain Health Care Center. Born in Derby on June 6, 1926, he was a son of the late John and Irene Bablonka Atcherson Sr. A member of the first graduating class of Fairfield Prep, he was a quartermaster signalman in the U. S. Navy serving on the 439 LCI Gun Boat and the LST 284. He served during the invasions of Layte and Okinawa. Mr. Atcherson was a member of the Germania Schwaben Seniors, the Germania Schwaben Mothers club, the past president of Our Lady of Grace Seniors, a member of the Our Lady of Grace Mens Club, the American Legion Post #143, the VFW #9460, Bridgeport Old Timers, Baldwin Center Seniors, president of Connecticut Burns Foundation Support Team, and a president of BARF. He also ran Bingo for the Burns Care Foundation at Our Lady of Grace. He was always there to lend a helping hand to everyone and was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. In addition to the love of his life of 31 years, Lillian Mastroni Atcherson, survivors include nine children and their spouses, Beverly and Bruce Garceau, Kathleen and Gene Bowers, Judith and Robert Ortschied, Deborah and Joseph Perez and Robert and Jeanne Atcherson, Cheryl and Richard Ranocchia, Chester Chambers, Gail Zuber and Alexandar, Dean and Ashley Chambers-Atcherson, a sister Barbara Atcherson, 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, Stratford. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
