Obituary of Helen M. Diorio

Helen Longo Diorio, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 after a brief illness. She was not only a wonderful mother, but best friend to her two daughters, a devoted wife, daughter and sister. Helen was born in Bridgeport on October 4, 1915 and was a lifelong city resident. She attended Harding High School graduating in 1933. She spoke of her high school days as a wonderful time in her life. Helen later met and married Gilbert, the love of her life in 1941. While he served in the Army for 3 1/2 years during World War II, she worked for General Electric in Bridgeport where she always said, she made little money as a piece work assembler, but had lots of fun.

Helen was pre-deceased by her parents Adeline and John Longo, her husband Gilbert, her sisters Marie Slimak and Josephine Mathews, and brothers Frank and John Longo.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Fraher and her husband Tom of Bridgeport, Janice Costello and Robert Costello of Stratford, loving grandchildren, Lauren Costello and Thomas and Patrick Fraher, her brother Victor Longo and many nieces and nephews. Helen will always be remembered for her devotion to her family and unconditional love. Her greatest joys later in life were her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She never missed a dance or gymnastic recital, soccer, baseball or basketball game or school plays. She will be missed forever by those who loved her. 

Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 3-7 p.m.
