Obituary of Marie Decerbo

Loving Mother, Grandmother & Sister Marie Carbone Decerbo, age 98, died on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in the Wooster Street area of New Haven, she was a daughter of the late Carlo and Rosa Panerello Carbone. Mrs. Decerbo was a retired sales associate of the mens clothing department for the former D.M. Reads when downtown Bridgeport was in its heyday. She was a lifelong member of the St. Andrew Church Friendship Club and was also a volunteer for the Red Cross, the former Park City Hospital and the Cardinal Sheehan Center. Marie lived most of her life in the north end of Bridgeport and truly enjoyed her time there spent with her neighbors and many friends she made over the years. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Marie lived through the Great Depression and was able to create delicious meals from limited resources. She loved to cook, especially for her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles A. Decerbo Sr., two sisters, Jennie and Rose and two brothers, Joseph and Albert. Survivors include two children, a son, Charles A. Decerbo Jr. of Port St. Lucie FL, a daughter, Carol Decerbo-Geesey and her husband John of Orange, six grandchildren, Christopher Decerbo and his wife Sue, Cara Smith and her husband Brian, Matthew Reyes and his wife Dahlia, Stephanie Sadowski and her husband John, Geoffrey Reyes and his wife Claudia and Michael Reyes and his wife Ilana, five great grandchildren, Kelly, McKenna, Addison, Katelyn and Brendan, her beloved sister, Ida Macri of Branford and several nieces and nephews. Marie had special devotion to Mary and the promises of the rosary. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers of Cambridge Manor, where she resided for the past two years, the nurses of St. Vincent Medical Center 7 East and Fr. Dan Kennelly for all of their care and compassion during their time of need. The family would also like to thank the Eucharistic Ministry of the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairfield for their weekly ministering to Mrs. Decerbo and all the residents of Cambridge Manor. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the St. Michael Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, Stratford.
